Northern Real Farming Conference

The Northern Real Farming Conference team is hosting a movement-building event on Monday, 6 November in Leeds, to coordinate and shape work in the North of England.

This all-day event is for anyone who is working in the north of England to transform food and farming systems to be more agroecological, nature friendly and regenerative. This will include NGOs, farmer organisations, landscape recovery projects, researchers, educators, other food system workers such as millers, bakers, retailers, distributors, and funders.

The Northern Real Farming Conference works in partnership with the Oxford Real Farming Conference team. There have been two previous NRFC conferences in 2020 and 2021, and our YouTube channel hosts resources and videos.

We are now shaping up a collaborative strategy for the North, identifying areas where work is needed to catalyse change, and where our collective energy can be most effective. This may include a collaborative manifesto for food systems in the north.

The day will be an opportunity to:

  • Share, review and shape strategic priorities for regenerative farming in the North of England

  • Explore, understand and share existing work and identify gaps

  • Shape the collective needs of the movement in the North, and identify next steps

Key themes are expected to include:

  • Land access for agroecological producers

  • Public institutions and shifting their procurement practices

  • Northern food processing and distribution capacity (eg abattoirs, mills, baker, distributors etc)

  • Genetic diversity in production including native and heritage varieties

  • Landscape recovery projects and agroecological design

  • A thriving land-based workforce - education and training

The event will take place between 10.30 and 4pm, at Imagine Leeds: the Climate Action Hub, City Exchange, 11 Albion Street, Leeds, LS1 5ES. It will be a participatory session.

There is an optional contribution requested of £20-£40 per person to cover the costs of the day. Receipts/invoices can be provided as requested. If your travel expenses will exceed £50 and you would like to request a contribution towards them, please email ellen@lessuk.org.

Refreshments and lunch will be provided.
